“In my career as a Civil Engineering Technician, I had several building projects that I had supervised but only realised that I didn’t know the nitty-gritties of building until I enrolled with SAHITA. When I got employed in the municipal environment I found out that the whole municipality had no building control officer. At one time I was requested by my manager to take charge of buildings that were being built without inspection and approvals etc. I indicated that I would not be able to do so since I had no competence in that area. This encouraged me to enrol with SAHITA and I really found the content of the building course I enrolled in very helpful. I couldn’t wait to finish my course as it was very interesting so I managed to complete the course in 3 months. I managed to do a detailed existing home inspection of my own house that had been built and found a lot of issues that I had not noticed. The report had since helped me to rectify all the issues I picked up. I also, out of the passion I got from the course, started to extend the house by a large ensuite bedroom.
